What is the use of meditation? In truth, it serves nothing practical in the utilitarian sense. And that is precisely where its greatness lies: in serving no utilitarian purpose, its true potential unfolds.
To meditate is to rest in the Void (Sunyata). In the most absolute silence. In pure stillness. When you rest in the Void, silence fills the mind, generating profound mental quietude. It is not death, nor rebirth, nor an intellectual concept — it is simply the unmanifest Void.
Yet, as we meditate, we do not disappear: we continue to be. The conscious subject remains as the silent witness of the Void. In witnessing the Void, individual ego dissolves into an explosion of clear light, momentarily illuminating the eternity we harbor within and around us.
Our attention turns the unmanifest Void into clear light. That is creation itself. Interacting with creation from this clear light is the joy and power of life. Meditation is a timeless moment of quiet where linear time steps aside.
The Expanding Levels of Consciousness
Many talk about God, invoke faith, fear divine retribution, or use religious labels as shields for their insecurities. The meditator needs none of this dogma. We do not move through the world; the world moves within our consciousness. Through our consciousness, we project our sensory reality.
As practice deepens, consciousness naturally expands through recognized states:
- Transcendent Consciousness: Direct awareness of the witnessing self beyond waking, dreaming, and sleeping.
- Cosmic Consciousness: Perpetual inner quietude alongside dynamic daily activity — life dances in effortless harmony within you.
- Collective Consciousness: Duality softens; one directly perceives the interconnected evolution of all living beings.
- Universal Consciousness: The reality of living unity becomes innate, and fear of mortality disappears.
- Pure Consciousness (The Seer / Rishi): Mastery of perception, holding past, present, and future in holistic clarity.
- Consciousness of the Void (Brahma): The unmanifest source that emanates life, consciousness, and creation.
From the Void, life arises; to the Void, it returns. This timeless unmanifest quietude is the heart of meditation. It unfolds naturally within you every single time you meditate.
Thank you.
